Dear Educators:
Please take a few minutes to take the survey on College and Work Readiness. See link below. Please comment on the following after reading Hawa and Eva's poster: 1. Sometimes, women abort a fetus once they learn it is going to be a girl. What do you think about this? 2. What action do you think should be taken to stop this problem? Now that you have had a chance to learn a bit about Jewish customs and traditions from Rabbi Lieber, answer the following questions:
1. List three things you learned from today's speaker. 2. Make one connection between what you learned today and the book Bread Givers, by Anzia Yezierska. Please watch this groups video at http://vimeo.com/30667407. After watching the video the group would like you to:
1) Write a comment on this page telling them what you think about the issue of hunger and what you think should be done about it. 2) Play the rice game at http://freerice.com/#/english-vocabulary/1554 to make a difference. What do you think about discrimination against girls ? What do you think we should do about it? Post your thoughts and ideas. Click on Discrimination Against Girls at School to see our poster and our advice and then write your response under comments. Best, Isa, Maksuda and Michel Please answer the following questions for homework after the first day of school:
1. What is the best thing that happened to you at school today (academic or personal)? 2. What are you feeling apprehensive about in your senior year of high school? Dear Seniors,
Thank you to all of you who participated in the summer reading blog. All of you who completed assignments will receive points. You will know how many points you received on summer reading in a couple of weeks. Summer reading is officially closed now. If you post after today, you will not receive points for those entries. We are looking forward to seeing you on Sept 8th, Thursday! Enjoy the rest of your summer. Best, Shahzia Hello Seniors,
We have two more weeks before summer reading ends (September 2nd) please remind your friends to complete 5 assignments and answer 5 students' questions to get full credit for this extra credit project. It will feel great to have an A in English class even before class starts! Here is the assignment for this week: 1. List 3-5 plot points from your book. 2. Find a passage in the reading. Explain it and then tell us why you think this passage is important to the book. 3. What do you think the theme of your book is? Wby? 4. Ask a fellow student a question connected to your book and answer a fellow student's question. Happy reading! Shahzia Hello Seniors,
I hope the end of your summer is going well. My family and I went to visit my parents in Indiana last week, thus no posting last week. Now, Jay's twin sister is visiting us with her kids. It has been a busy, but fun summer. Hopefully you all are also enjoying some family and friend time. I am looking forward to meeting you all soon. Here is the post for this week: 1. Write down 3-5 plot points of the book you are reading. 2. What is the main internal or external conflict in the story you are reading? 3. If you had an opportunity to interview one of the characters in your story, who would it be and what three questions would you ask this character? 4. Post a question for others to answer and answer one other question. Summer reading will end on September 2nd, so try to finish five assignments plus answer five questions. Good luck! Email me if you have any questions. Shahzia |
